SARVA Month is Here!!

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and, in honor of this, SARVA is offering a variety of events, displays, and other ways to get involved with these issues throughout all of April! For a complete list of all the events that will be available during the month, check out our SARVA Month page under the “SARVA Month” tab above!

The first three weeks of SARVA Month will feature a wide variety of different event types and focuses, starting with a “Dawgs Take Action” pledge (produced in collaboration with UW IFC and UW Panhellenic) to unify the student body and to encourage students to take a stand against sexual violence. The following weeks include a number of awesome events, including a SARVA Social Mixer, a viewing of Frontline’s “Rape in the Fields” documentary, a Self-Care Day, and a “Reclaim the Night” event allowing students to light up the Quad with structures they build out of glowsticks!

The final week of SARVA Month includes our large-scale “Rock. Run. Riot!” 3-part event series! This will start with a display and silent march on April 28th to raise awareness regarding the unacceptably high rates of sexual violence on college campuses and across the US. Second, will be our biannual Take Back the Night event. This year we’re switching it, and instead of having our Take Back the Night be an open mic (as it has been traditionally), this quarter it will be a candlelight vigil beginning with a processing around campus and ending with a moment of silence. Finally, we’ll be wrapping up the month with the annual SARVA 5k, to raise awareness regarding sexual and relationship violence as well as to gain donations for Lifewire, a local domestic violence shelter.
